There are 101 hostages being held by terrorists in Gaza.

They include a British citizen, Emily Damari, and five hostages with close British families: Avinatan Or, Eli Sharabi, Oded Lifschitz and Tsachi Idan. Yossi Sharabi was killed and his body is still held by Hamas.

Hostage-taking is a war crime. The 101 hostages should be released immediately and unconditionally, as our Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer has repeatedly said. The British Government must do more to secure their release.

The British Hostage Families campaign exists to shine a light on the British-linked hostages and their families, and campaign for every hostage to be released.

The British Hostage Families are represented by Adam Rose of Mishcon de Reya and Adam Wagner of Doughty Street Chambers.

Last night, Chief Rabbi Mirvis (@chiefrabbi) wrote a letter in a Sefer Torah in memory of Yossi Sharabi, a hostage who was killed in captivity. His body remains in Gaza. Yossi’s brother, Eli - whose British wife and children were murdered on October 7th - remains in captivity.

May Yossi’s memory be a blessing.

Ambassador Hartley stressed that the hostages must be central to any ceasefire proposal, and a ceasefire should never be mentioned without reference to the hostages. He made clear that, as they were in his office, he took responsibility for their hostage relatives - Oded Lifschitz, Eli Sharabi, Avinatan Or and Emily Damari.

He gave their families insight into the current state of play which is, unfortunately, not yet an optimistic one.
